Focusing
Focusing is one way of seeing the world and a technique that Dr. Maurer uses in her therapy sessions to help you find direction and answers.
The Focusing philosophy considers that we are not cut off at the neck and that our body communicates with us as well - through our thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and images. For example, that knot in your stomach has some important information and really wants to share that point of view.
The anticipation of keeping ourselves company, while overwhelmed with uncomfortable physical feelings and scary emotions, can cause anxiety and a desire to change the subject! However, Focusing philosophy also considers that every communication inside us means well, thus enabling us to be with ourselves in a more patient, understanding way while not being overwhelmed. When we can comfortably keep company with ourselves in a gentle way, we can see the bigger picture.
Focusing is not only a technique and a way to help find direction and answers; it is also a way to strengthen trust and have a happier relationship with yourself. Come give it a try. Therapy will always go at your own comfort and speed.
